I really enjoy pairing food with wine. I like to prepare simple meals at home and then see how different wines pair with entrees I’ve prepared. Although I’m not a vegetarian, I do prepare lots of vegetarian entrees. I also cover the wine bottles with a bag to try and “guess the varietal.” I pull the bag up slightly to determine if the wine is white or red to help decide on the appropriate pairing, then I proceed to “guess the varietal.” I also enjoy attending food and wine events while meeting new people and building connections. I love visiting wineries and learning about their food pairing options for wines presented at their tasting rooms. I also enjoy learning about great food pairing options from my friends and colleagues after tasting a bottle of wine. I also read information on food and wine pairings in blogs, newspapers, social media, YouTube, and other media channels.
I’ve been in the hospitality industry over 16 years. When I first began in the business I served as a bellman for both the Hotel Drisco and Hotel Griffon in San Francisco for 3 ½ years. Then I worked for the Donatello Hotel for 9 years. From the Donatello I’ve been with Hilton Union Square for over 4 ½ years. Throughout the years I’ve really enjoyed my experience interacting with the hotel guests and tourists. I’ve also enjoyed listening to their travel experiences, learning about where there from, and fulfilling their needs. I also payed attention to their frequently asked questions, which mostly centered on their dining options. Besides questions related to tourist attractions, it was:
- Can you recommend a restaurant?
- Where is the restaurant located?
- How do I get there?
In my interactions with the hotel guests, they look for the fun things to do and places to explore. They also love food and wine, which is how the idea of this blog evolved. I believe this blog will help fulfill the opportunity to educate not only tourists, but food and wine lovers all over the world!
I hope you enjoy this journey we will share together!
