I’ve been on many remarkable wine tours throughout the years and one of the most significant aspects to visiting wineries are “How their wines pair with food.” Not many wineries I’ve visited have commercial kitchens (or even executive chefs if they do have commercial kitchens) where they could demonstrate how food can pair with wine. However, I’ve listed a few wineries I’ve visited who not only provide excellent tours of their wineries where you learn about their winemaking practice and history of their wineries, but also provide educational programs where you learn how wine pairs with food. Depending on the winery, some wineries provide the food and wine pairing as a separate class while others include the pairing as part of your tour. Some wineries or restaurants will have a winemaker’s dinner where an executive chef and winemaker present either a 3, 4, or 5 course prefix meal where food is paired with wine. In this case I will showcase wineries who offer tours in conjunction to food and wine pairing. The food varies from a bite size appetizers to full course meals. Advance reservation is usually required when pairing food with wine. Unlike food and wine events, your tour is more impersonal where you have a narrator guide you through the process.
Castello Di Amorosa is one of my favorite wineries in the northern region of Napa Valley. Located in Calistoga, this winery offers an amazing tour of the history the winery, fantastic wines, and is made in the form of a castle. Many of the bricks (if not all) that were used to make the castle were brought over from Italy. Taste the experience with Castello Di Amorosa.
