I had lunch over 3 years ago at the King of Falafel in San Francisco it was fabulous! Their signature dish “Falafel” was outstanding! It’s a vegetarian entrée served on your choice of bread and made with hummus, tahini, lettuce, and tomato. It also included the famous “Baklava Pastry.” Unfortunately the restaurant closed in 2014 due to loss of its lease. King of Falafel had won numerous awards, such as, “the Billy Award”, and San Francisco Chronicles “Best of Falafel”. They were featured on “Check Please.” When the owner was asked what makes their Falafel so special, they replied, “We do it the original way,” she says. “We don’t add nothing into it; it’s the way it was created. Everything here is chopped and cooked and prepared daily. Everything is fresh.” Here’s more information on King of Falafel. I would pair this Falafel with a Blue Fin Gewurztraminer 2014. The Gewurztraminer’s fruity, sweet and aromatic flavors would blend in nicely with the semi spicy, vegetables of tomatoes and lettuce. Blue Fin is available at Trader Joe’s.
